The goal of categorization, or the assessment of the terrain according to the degree of stability, is engineering judgment and the separation of zones with different engineering geological properties. By ranking the zones, the subsequent approach to the treatment and use of such space will be defined. The methods of the assessment depend on the availability of data the scale, but also on the purpose of the research and the size of the study area. The choice of scale depends on whether the assessment is done for the level of regional, spatial or urban planning or in the design phase, that is, the construction conditions of the facilities. Also, the choice of scale depends on the size of the area of interest, so it can be defined by the area of the entire country, region, municipality, settlement or the route of infrastructure corridors. In this paper, a regional assessment was made for the area of Republic of Srpska, where both qualitative and semi-quantitative methods of assessment and categorization can be accepted. When it comes to such regional levels, which represent less detailed assessments, the results can be used for informative and advisory purposes.
